WMBD/WYZZ-TV - EVANSVILLE, Ill. - Illinois State surmounted a 25-point second-half deficit at Evansville to briefly take a one-point lead – and ultimately – force overtime; however, the Purple Aces held off ISU in OT, 104-98, Wednesday night in Missouri Valley Conference play at the Ford Center.
D.J. Balentine led all scorers with 38 points for Evansville (11-15, 4-9 in MVC) and Egidiju Mockevicius netted 18 plus a team-high seven rebounds. The Purple Aces shot 51.9 percent from the field compared to ISU’s 43.3 percent clip.
Nick Zeisloft netted a career-high 18 points – all after halftime – as the Redbirds (13-12, 6-7 in MVC) outscored Evansville, 61-40, in the second half to force the extra period, marking ISU’s first 60-point half since tallying 60 against Southeast Missouri State Nov. 28, 2009.
