Hazmat Response in Bloomington

Bloomington firemen responded Wednesday to the McLean County Health Department's parking lot on a hazardous materials call. According to a release from firemen, a resident opened a letter or package Tuesday night which contained a small amount of white powder. The woman placed the package into a small recycle container and then placed it inside of a trash bag and sealed it. After which she showered and changed clothes and went to bed. Wednesday, she brought the container to the health department to determine the contents of the white powder. HAZMAT personnel sampled the powder and determined it was not a biological hazard and presented no credible threat. Firemen remind residents to call 9 1 1 immediately if they open a letter or package that contains an unexpected item, such as white powder and then follow the instructions of the 9 1 1 dispatcher on what to do next.
