HCC Dealing With More Students, Fewer Credit Hours

NORMAL - A local community college is dealing with a shift in its student scheduling.

Heartland President Rob Widmer says the school is seeing increased enrollment on its three campuses this semester, but students are taking fewer credit hours than before.

Widmer says it could be that more are trying to juggle work and school. It's a scenario the school was prepared for.

Now the school is doing slightly better than anticipated with state dollars staying level.

"Because of the particular way they allocate we ended up with a little bit more than we anticipated. So, that helped offset a little bit of what we're seeing with the enrollment,” said Widmer.

Heartland's enrollment figures won't become official until Aug. 29.
