Heart of Illinois Fair Roars With Excitement

Lions, tiger, and even ligers and tigons. The HOI Fair is getting extra creative for the 2014 season.
PEORIA – The 2014 Heart of Illinois Fair is roaring with fun.

The fair officially opened Friday afternoon.

It’s showcasing a special attraction with some very unique animals.

Woody’s Menagerie added something new to the phrase, “Lions, and tigers, and bears…oh my.”

“We also have the large ligers here,” said Gregg Woody. He owns and operates the business with his wife.

“A liger is out of a lion male and a tiger female,” he explained, “A liger will get to be as big as mom and dad combined!”

If you stop by their show, you can see a variety of animals. They range from armadillos, to owls, to even a grizzly bear cub.

“We've got 16 different species of animals here in the education show plus the other animals we have here.”

But, if you want to see the full-grown ligers, you’ll have to pay a dollar.

“Those 2 guys stand 52 inches tall. They weigh 90 0lbs., and they're no different than your common house cat their just about 890 pounds larger.”

The Heart of Illinois Fair runs from July 11-19.
