Heavy Rain Moving In; Flooding a Concern

Heavy rain, melting snow, along with a frozen ground could lead to flooding issues starting late Wednesday night.
PEORIA - Another potent system is taking aim on central Illinois, this time in the form of rain starting late Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch of all of central Illinois beginning at 3am Thursday morning.

Showers with a few thunderstorms are expected shortly after midnight.  The system will produce heavy rain, with some areas picking up over 1 inch of rain.  Heavy rain, melting snow, and the frozen ground will lead to possible flooding, especially in low lying areas.  Urban areas could also see some flooding where drainage is poor or where storm drains are clogged by snow and ice.

Severe weather is not expected, Thursday.  The Flood Watch will expire Thursday evening.
