Specialist Matthew R. Ullrich joined the United States Army right out of high school in 2006.
He joined the 164th military police unit, based out of Anchorage, Alaska.
During the 2007 surge in northern Iraq, Matt was sent to Balad Airbase to help with Iraqi police development.
On deployment and at home, Matt's job was similar to that of a civilian police officer, in addition to funeral detail and working as a driver for high ranking officials.
In 2009, he was even asked to transport Secretary Robert gates during a base visit.
After five years of service, he earned the rank of Specialist.
Matt is currently living in East Peoria with his wife, Lauren and their two children Taylor and Chase.
