PEORIA - The intersection of Main and Monroe Street in the River City is under a new management. Today the intersection was officially renamed the “Honorary Secretary Ray LaHood Roadway.”Former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood worked in public service for 35 years and served as a Secretary of Transportation for the four.LaHood represented Illinois’ 18th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995-2009. He’s a Peoria native and says it means a lot to be recognized in his hometown.
LaHood says “This is our hometown. This is where we were raised, where we raised our children. When you see these little guys sitting over here, this is the reason that we care so much about Peoria, because of the next generation.”
City leaders were on hand to mark the occasion this morning. Mayor Ardis and Caterpillar CEO Doug Oberhelman both spoke highly of Former
Secretary LaHood’s service.
