PEORIA - A first time event is showing Peoria has potential to an art power house

Dozens of artists took part in Ignite Peoria, an event that gives them a canvas to show off their work to the public.

The gathering featured painters, sculptures and other creative minds.

Some artists came from across the country, but most were from Central Illinois.

Organizers say they’ve been hoping to put on an event like this for years.

“Really kind of two goals. One is to show off all of the artists that we have. But the other one is to ignite the inner artists in all of the community,” said Kathy Chitwood, Chairperson of Ignite Peoria.

“I hope that it just helps the whole community. The whole arts culture within the are. I mean really that's what this is all about for me,” said Jacob Grant, Co-Owner of Wheel Art Pottery in Peoria.

Organizers hope the exposure will give artists a better chance to make it in Peoria. Many of them operate out of the Warehouse District.
