Illinois Soybeans Running Ahead of Schedule

Despite widespread rain in Illinois last week, corn and soybean production continued to make progress, according to a release Monday from the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Corn in the dough stage reached 93 percent compared to the five year average of 87 percent. Corn dented reached 48 percent compared to a five year average of 53 percent. 82 percent of the corn crop was rated good to excellent while only one percent is rated very poor. Soybeans setting pods reached 94 percent ahead of the five year average of 88 percent. 78 percent of the state's soybeans are rated good to excellent while only one percent of the beans are rated very poor. Topsoil moisture was rated at two percent very short, 76 percent adequate and 9 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated at two percent very short, 72 percent adequate and 5 percent surplus.
