Illinois Supreme Court Declines to Hear Term Limits Issue

Despite a call for an emergency hearing before the Illinois Supreme Court Friday regarding the term limit reform, the state's high court declined to hear the case after an appellate court Thursday ruled against putting the term limits issue on the November ballot, calling it unconstitutional. The issue became critical because Friday was the deadline for the state to certify the November ballot. Gubernatorial hopeful Bruce Rauner was spearheading the move and issued a statement following the high court's decision. Rauner said Pat Quinn, Mike Madigan and the Springfield career politicians won today but the people of Illinois lost. Rauner says the people will have the final say at the ballot box in November if they elect a pro term limits governor.
