NORMAL - When ISU Football coach Brock Spack watches the Super Bowl, he's sure to see some familiar faces.
"It's been 15 straight years that one of my players, players that played defense for us played in the Super Bowl," said Brock Spack, ISU Head Coach.
Spack is talking about his time as an assistant and defensive coordinator at Purdue. It seems every year, he roots for former players in the Super Bowl, and this year is no exception."
The Big Game is extra special for ISU Head football coach Brock Spack. He got to watch two of his former Purdue players out braving the elements at MetLife Stadium.
Sean Phillips for the Broncos and Cliff Avril of the Seahawks are latest pair to play in the Super Bowl. They have a reserved spot on Spack's Wall of Fame."
"Great to see those guys do so well," said Spack. "Hard to cheer which team, I'll just cheer for sacks, since both are pass-rushers."
Not since 1998 has a Redbird played in the Super Bowl. Mike Prior played for the Packers from '93 -'98 and won Super Bowl 31. Spack thinks we'll see more very soon."
"They are very good players in the process," said Spack. "Should have an NFL prospect every year. Might see a Redbird play in the Super Bowl someday."
Hopefully many more.
