Kids in the community got the chance to hit the court today for a tennis tournament.
It’s all a part of the 8th annual Jack Sweney Youth Tennis Tournament.
The program runs all summer and teaches the kids how to play through free lessons.
It also provides the equipment for the kids to play with.
The program’s goal is to teach as many at-risk youth in Peoria and give them the opportunity to learn how to play the sport.
"The Park District has done a great job of aligning with kids in the community that do come often from more underprivileged circumstances," said Chip Sweney, Jack Sweney's son.
"I just had a mother come up to me and say thank you so much because without this program her children would not have been able to play," said Beau Rezendes, Jack Sweney's daughter.
Program organizers hope after learning to play, the kids will make it a life time sport for themselves.
