WMBD/WYZZ-TV STAFF - PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs fell to the Clinton LumberKings by the score of 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The loss, Peoria's fourth-in-a-row, puts the Chiefs at 16-26 in the second half, 48-62 overall, heading in to game three of the series Monday evening with first pitch at 7:00 p.m.
The Chiefs jumped on the board first against Bobby Shore in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Bijan Rademacher reached on an error by second baseman Dillon Hazlett. In his second at-bat as a Chief, Tim Saunders smacked a double off the wall in right advancing Rademacher to third. Wes Darvill grounded to third, and the throw home to cut down Rademacher was dropped by David Villasuso allowing him to score giving Peoria a 1-0 lead. Yaniel Cabezas brought home Saunders with a force out to second extending the Chiefs lead to 2-0.
Clinton responded in the top of the fifth against Michael Jensen. Jharmidy De Jesus doubled with one out and advanced to third on a single by Anthony Phillips. With two outs, Hazlett singled to center scoring De Jesus cutting the Chiefs lead to 2-1.
The LumberKings fought back to take the lead in the top of the eighth against Austin Reed. Hazlett singled and was bunted over to second by Patrick Brady for the first out. Dan Paolini singled to put runners on the corners before Kevin Rivers doubled scoring Hazlett and tying the game at 2-2. Villasuso was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Guillermo Pimentel gave Clinton a 3-2 lead with a sac fly to center scoring Paolini.
Jensen allowed one run on five hits and no walks while striking out four in the no decision. Sheldon McDonald threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out three. Reed (4-5) allowed two runs on three hits and no walks.
