Made in Central Illinois: Roanoke Concrete Products Co.

We're learning more about a concrete company that started business in Roanoke in 1948.

EAST PEORIA – Dozens of products are created right here in central Illinois every year. We’re learning more about a local concrete company. Roanoke Concrete Products Company produces hundreds of different concrete mixes and a full-line of landscaping products.

Mike Blunier is the Vice-President and General Manager of the company. He said, “Roanoke concrete products originated in 1948."

He’ll tell you it’s a business of simple beginnings. It had just a couple of trucks and one small workshop in the town of Roanoke. But fast forward 66 years and it’s greatly expanded. He said, “We've expanded since then, with different locations through central Illinois, Bloomington-Normal, Pekin, Mossville."

The family-owned business has five locations in the area, and has grown into a manufacturing giant. He said, “We probably have over 200 concrete products."

The company produces landscaping products, masonry units, and 300-400 different kinds of ready-mix concrete, which is made mostly from scratch at the East Peoria location. Blunier explained, “It's kind of unique here. We have our own gravel pit operation, which we're mining a lake in an area that we produce our own sand and gravel, all the way from mason sand which is very find to boulders, as big as you want."

And as diversified as you want. He said they offer different colors, shapes, styles, pavers, retaining walls – you name it.

From start to finish, Roanoke Concrete Products Co. can get the job done. “You see the round ready mix trucks, the drums that are turning, we haul that material to job sites."

Remember the reconstruction of Interstate 74 through Peoria? That was one of the company’s biggest jobs.

Though much has changed in the company’s nearly seven decades of business, Blunier said its mission remains the same: to provide locally made, beautiful concrete products to the people of central Illinois.

He added, "We're all born and raised in this area, and it helps to have knowledge of the people you're serving."
