Marriott Pere Marquette Gives Sweet Surprise to South Side Mission

PEORIA – The Marriott Pere Marquette has been open less than a year, but its hospitality is spreading into the community.
PEORIA – The Marriott Pere Marquette has been open less than a year, but its hospitality is spreading into the community.

Monday, the hotel's chef gave the city's South Side Mission a sweet surprise.

The soup kitchen, which feeds those in need, received a host of homemade goodies straight from the new hotel.

Walnut and chocolate chip cookies plus brownies still warm from the oven quickly got eaten.

Recipients say they're grateful for the bonus dessert.

Hotel staff members are making the volunteer effort a regular occurrence.

“We do various things to make sure we're supporting the different pillars,” said staff member Amy Hawkins.  “Whether that is feeding the community, helping house the community, etc."

The hotel's event is known as "Spirit to Serve."

It's a day for employees to give back to the community.
