Mild Temperatures Lead to Poor Attendance at Peoria Pools

Pools across the board report lower numbers.
PEORIA - Less people are showing up at the pool this year.

And it's because of the unseasonably comfortable temperatures.

Splashdown Water Park says its July attendance numbers are down 13,000 people compared to March of 2012.

Managers blame cooler summer temperatures.

Certain programs have been canceled because of the weather.

Managers haven't had to let anyone go due to the low attendance numbers, but often let lifeguards off early.

“Our numbers have been really lost just due to the cold weather. Uh, I believe that even thought we have had a heat adviser a few days, we didn't have the big streak of it. So maybe one day it's hot and then all of a sudden it's just cold so it affects our turnout,” said Aquatics Director David Beck.

With officials at other public, indoor and outdoor pools in Peoria. They all said attendance is low this summer.
