Morton Church Breaks Ground on New Church

MORTON - The sanctuary will be finished in August of 2015.
MORTON - One Morton church is getting ready for the next step towards a new home.

Assistant Pastor Mark Anderson said, "This is about thirty years in the making, and so we're happy that, finally, we get to do it."

Since building the church's school on the edge of town, the congregation has wanted to have everything on one campus.

Anderson said, "We have the opportunity now, with the congregational support, to actually get to do this, and people are just really excited about it."

Sunday, the church held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new sanctuary, which will be much bigger than the building Pastor Anderson says is full.

Anderson said, "In terms of our meeting space, we are just out of space. We have no more room left in our building on weeknights."

Steven Neubauer helped break ground on the new sanctuary, just like he did, when he was a kid, when the church decided to build the school.

Neubauer said, "Kind of glad, I am back to do the groundbreaking, again. I don't remember doing it when I was three years old or so, I don;t remember."

Anderson added, "The plan is to unify the two buildings, so that the church and the school are just one big building, basically and they'll be connected."

Neubauer added, "I feel like it is going to be a lot better for us. Everything is going to be right here. It'll be a lot easier for the school and all the young kinds to be right there and the church is right here."

Pastor Anderson said Sunday was the day he has been waiting for since he started with the church.

He said, "I've been here for three years now, and this has been on my radar since I've been here."

But that doesn't come close to how excited he'll be, when he can walk in to the new sanctuary.

He said, "In one year from this August, oh, I'm just really excited."

The new sanctuary will have 500 seats.

It is expected to be finished in August of next year.
