Morton PD Adds New K-9 Officer To Staff

MORTON - Morton PD welcomes new K-9, Shadow, to force.
For the first time since 2001, the Morton Police Department is adding a K-9 officer to its staff.

"I'm very excited, i've been waiting for this for a long time", says Officer Mike Foster.
"I had to do a lot of work to be eligible to have a K-9", he says.

Officer Foster's new K-9 is "Shadow".
He is a 2-year old German Shepard.

On February 24th, Officer Foster and Officer Shadow will go through the Illinois State Police K-9 Training Program.
It's a 10-week program where Officer Shadow will learn obedience and tracking skills.

Chief of Police Craig Hilliard says Officer Shadow will be used primarily for drug searches, tracking burglars and school functions.
