EAST PEORIA - The local branch of the NAACP is celebrating history, culture, and progress.
The 51st annual Freedom Fund Banquet took place Saturday night.
Many came out to socialize, learn and celebrate community achievements.
C.T. Vivian, a distinguished minister, author and organizer spoke at the event.
Organizers say it’s a great way to inspire others.
"Housing, employment; we are also in roads into environmental issues, said secretary Karen Wilson. “Anything that effects the general population, we're involved with that.”
Guest speaker Reverend Vivian will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama later this month.
