Neighborhood Gears Up for Music Festival

Country Life Music Festival is this weekend, and the location bumps up to multiple residential areas.
Loud music and big crowds. Sounds like a neighbor’s nightmare.

But most residents in Charter Oak, right across the street from Ravina on the Lakes, said they are pumped for this weekend’s Country Life Music Festival.

“We’re close enough that we’re not going to be able to escape from it, so we’re embracing it,” resident Jennifer Ritter said. “We’re having a get-together in our backyard.”

Some people are throwing their own parties, and others are going to make the journey across the street to catch the concert. But with up to 10,000 people expected to show up each night, residents are worried about one thing in particular.

“We’re still excited for it and all, but I know some people are concerned about parking and all the cars and stuff going around,” Charter Oak resident Shay Morgan said.

The neighborhood association has met with city officials, police officers and others to come up with a parking plan for this weekend. Their solution: parking passes.

Only vehicles with parking passes can park on the streets in the neighborhood, and only Charter Oak homeowners can get their hands on these passes.

On-site at the Ravina, there are 2,500 parking spots, and there are shuttles available at the campsites and hotels, but one resident still has concerns.

“They seem to think everything’s going to be fine, and of course, all their preparations are going to work, and everything is going to go smoothly. For a first-time event, I’m not as optimistic,” Ritter said.

This first-time event may also accumulate a lot of trash, and with backyards backing up into the street, that trash could end up in the neighborhood.

“I would respect somebody else’s property, and I would hopefully expect them to respect everyone’s property,” resident Nan Hume said.’

If that respect is shown, Charter Oak residents said they will welcome the Country Life Music Festival for years to come.
