New School Board Member Sworn In, Resigns Minutes Later

Suzie Wolstenholm read her oath of office Tuesday, but says circumstances changed.
PEORIA – Peoria Public School Board of Education saw some new changes Tuesday afternoon.

Suzie Wolstenholm, the newly-elected board member from District 3, announced her resignation just a few minutes after she read her oath of office.

She read her letter, in part, saying:

“I waited until today to give people time to decide if they wanted to throw their hat in the ring and become a part of the change needed in our district.  I recommend this board choose someone representative of our community.”

The outgoing Peoria School Board of Education President, Rick Cloyd, called the move “unusual.”

He says the board was aware that Wolstenholm would be resigning shortly after being sworn in.

If you would like to apply for the position email your resume and letter of interest School Board of Education Secretary Joan Bastian at joan.bastian@psd150.org.

The deadline to apply is July 11, 2015 at noon.

The appointed board member will serve for one year, and the board hopes to appoint the new member during its August 11th meeting.

According to Illinois School Code, the board must fill the position within 45 days of the resignation.
