New Washington Fire Board Member has Ties With Chief

He oversaw the selection process of Washington Fire Chief Mike Vaughn in 2008.

WASHINGTON - The newest member of the Washington Fire Board has direct ties with Washington Fire Chief Mike Vaughn.

William Gallaway was Fire Board President when Vaughn was hired as the department’s first fire chief in 2008.

He says Vaughn fit what the board was looking for in terms of cost and experience, but has hardly spoken to the Washington Fire Chief since he left his position with the board.

The new board member didn’t seem concerned about the current controversy surrounding Chief Vaughn,

We’ve been told that he was one of six people vying for the position.

Gallaway expressed his excitement to once again be part of the board.

“I’m proud I was selected,” he says. “It shows my credibility with the department and the city. I’m honored and humbled.”

Gallaway served as a firefighter from 1999 to 2011. He will take over his new position immediately.
