New Water Main at Main St. & University St.

New water main means better water pressure for Peoria residents.

Peoria - Good news for Peoria residents who’ve been struggling with water problems. A new water main will be installed near Main Street and University Avenue.

The Illinois American Water’s Peoria District is investing about $800,000 into the project.

The main broke in September of last year. The addition will enhance the water pressure to customers while lowering the risk of inconveniences caused by breaks.

Weather permitting, the work will begin in March.

“If everything goes as planned, we shouldn’t have anything happen beyond what we expected. What we want is to make sure we let people know ahead of time so they can make plans to avoid the area and are aware of what’s going on, but also so they are aware of this investment.”

The construction is expected to take four to six weeks to complete. The work may temporarily impact water services to some customers.
