BLOOMINGTON - Two Normal police officers are taking action to remember officers lost in the line of duty.

Those detectives, Jake Zabukovec and Bill Angus, joined a team of 55 bicyclists in the COPS Cycle Across Illinois Ride. COPS is short for Concerns of Police Survivors.

They started in Southern Illinois and are expected to finish in Chicago on Sunday. On Friday, they headed through Bloomington and Normal. Along the way, riders stop for small dedications to support the families of the one hundred five officers who died in the U.S. while on active duty last year. Three of those fallen officers were from Illinois.

"I really got to understand the stories and the emotions and the feelings they experience, and it really touched me at the time,” said Lt. Jeff Klepec of the Bloomington Police Department. “So, at that point, I said I'm sold on this and I'll help out any way I can.”

The ride started in Southern Illinois near the Mississippi River and will end in Chicago. All the riders are also collecting money during the trip.
