Normal Looking At Automated Parking Ticket Systems

NORMAL - The Town of Normal could be making a big change in the way it issues parking tickets.
NORMAL - The Town of Normal could be making a big change in the way it issues parking tickets.

Town council is expected to approve a plan that would move the ticketing process closer to automation.

City leaders say there is a $95,000 cost upfront, but the city could quickly make up that difference, with the elimination of two positions.

It's a system they say has worked well in other places, including Decatur.

"We've also visited with those communities to make sure that this is indeed a proven technology that is going to work and we think it is. It is a good technology and will ultimately again, save tax payers quite a bit of money over a period of years,” said Mark Peterson, city manager for the Town of Normal.

Council is also expected to discuss a new solid waste collection program. Normal is considering signing a contract that's part of a joint venture with Bloomington.
