WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. - Not many people would have predicted Notre Dame would reach the Class 3A Elite Eight.
Except for the players on the Irish.
"No one thought we could do it, besides us," said senior point guard Aaron Sanders after PND beat Morton for the sectional title Friday. "We just believed the whole season that we could do it. Just one game away and we're not done yet."
Notre Dame needed three wins to capture the regional, then won twice to win the Peoria Sectional. One hurdle remains, Tuesday's super-sectional against Rockford Lutheran.
"One more game to get to state. State is always the goal," said senior Matt Kouri. "If teams say they don't want to get to state then they are lying to you."
ND plays Rockford Lutheran in DeKalb Tuesday at 6 p.m.
