Officials Call East Peoria's First Flying Fish Festival and Bow Fishing Tournament A Success

Numbers are in following the big day.
EAST PEORIA - The numbers are in on East Peoria’s first Flying Fish Festival and Bow Fishing Tournament.

More than 1,000 people stopped by Bass Pro Shop to sample the Asian Carp and learn more about how the fish is harming the local ecosystem.

Thirty-four teams competed in the bow fishing contest, collecting more than 2,000 pounds of fish.
Most of it was Asian Carp.

Organizers are happy with the way the day-long event turned out and think it is a big step in letting people know what they can do to limit the number of Asian Carp in the Illinois River.

“For the first event we couldn't be more pleased. We estimated over a thousand people came through either just to watch the event, sample the food…people of all ages,” said East Peoria Chamber of Commerce member Rick Swan.

The possibility of bringing an Asian Carp processing plant to Central Illinois is floating around.
The nearest one is in Grafton, Illinois, which ia two-and-a-half hours away.
