PEKIN - On Sunday, tornadoes touched down in Washington, East Peoria, Pekin, and Dana, a small town just north of the Woodford & LaSalle County line.
In Pekin, we talked to residents who say the tornado came on quickly, but once it hit, what was five minutes felt like hours.
Vickie Louchart was alone with her six-year-old grandson at her daughter’s house.
Louchart says her daughter warned her about the sirens, so she grabbed her grandson and rushed to the basement.
“We huddled in the middle by a brick wall and I put myself over him. It was the most terrifying thing I've ever been through, but it was over quick. We're lucky, but there are a lot of people that are less fortunate than we are,” said Lochart.
Louchart says the only damage to her daughter’s house is some blown-in windows.
She adds that her grandson is still cared to return home.
