Peoria City Council Approves Management Change at Marriott Pere Marquette

The historic hotel will still be affiliated with the Marriott brand, but a third party will step in to manage its operations.

PEORIA – The Peoria City Council approved a change in management at the recently renovated Peoria Marriott Pere Marquette hotel.

The hotel will still be affiliated with the Marriott, but a third party management team called First Hospitality Group will step in to run daily operations.

Developer Gary Matthews believes FHG will do a better job than the Marriott’s team, because the group focuses more on local development. Matthews said even the Marriott supports the change.

Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich said the new management agreement will come with a series of conditions from the city, to ensure that expectations are being met. Urich said, "It's entirely appropriate for a lender to do that and we felt it was a way to reaffirm our rights in this regard."

Matthews said, "I think Marriott is an awesome brand it's just their style of management is not what I was looking for, for our community."

The Pere’s neighboring hotel the Courtyard Marriott is set to open in mid-July.
