PEORIA – Peoria is expanding its successful resident officer program.
The city will now have a new resident officer on the city’s south side.
The council approved the purchase of a house at 1916 W. Kettelle Tuesday night.
The Peoria Police Department officer will live there and act as a liaison between the neighborhood and the department.
The first resident officer was assigned to Peoria’s West Bluff almost a year ago.
The second lives on the city’s East Bluff.
The department hopes the third officer is just as successful.
The property will cost approximately $56,000, depending on final costs and fees.
The resident officer position has been posted; the police department doesn’t know when it will be filled.
