Peoria Park Board Discusses 2015 Budget

Peoria Park Board Discusses 2015 Budget

Needs to fill large deficit
PEORIA - A heated park board meeting could mean fewer programs offered in Peoria.
The Peoria Park District is facing a 1.36 million dollar deficit next year.
More than 100 turned out to hear statements and discussion on the 2015 budget.
Closing the Central Park Pool or one of the district's golf courses were on the agenda.
Numerous full time employees could also be on the chopping block.
A park district spokesperson says action must be taken because the recession really took its toll on district’s finances.
Tim Cassidy the Board President explained, "If the decision to close central park pool, it may only be for a year or 2. Hopefully, the economy would turn back around. The tax base would come back and it could reopen. The same could be true for a golf course."
No budget decisions were made tonight.
The park district will hold a special meeting to talk about the budget on September 9th.
