A decorated Peoria police officer is arrested on aggravated child pornography charges.

It’s the third arrest in less than a year for Officer John McCavitt.

Officer McCavitt turned himself into authorities today after an arrest warrant was issued.

He faces seven counts of aggravated child pornography, a class two felony, and three counts of child pornography, a class three felony.

McCavitt is free on bond.

Police say the warrant stems from information found during a Peoria Police internal investigation surrounding the off-duty actions of McCavitt in his Peoria home in 2013.

McCavitt was acquitted of charges on March 19 of this year in another case, after a woman claimed she was restrained and assaulted by McCavitt.

He was then arrested on March 28 on charges of unauthorized videotaping.

McCavitt has been a Peoria police officer since 2007.

He’s on unpaid administrative leave during the criminal and internal investigations.
