PEORIA - The Peoria riverfront is going to be packed tomorrow, and police are out today gearing up for the big Independence Day celebration.
They are working with construction crews to keep much of Washington Street open for a majority of the night, before it closes again after the fireworks.
Water Street will be closed most of the day, along with parts of Main Street.
Police recommend parking farther into the city and walking a bit to the riverfront that way you can get home quicker.
“We’ll have officers assist everybody, getting out of here. We do ask for patience,” Lt. Steve Roegge of the Peoria Police Department said. “It takes a while to get in here. It’s going to take you a while to get out.”
Police say they are expecting anywhere from 70,000 to 100,000 people tomorrow night, and that’s just on the Peoria side.
