Police Academy Recruits for Summer

Full Schedule-
PEORIA - If you want to know more about the Peoria's K-9 unit, “Don't Shoot,” or other police initiatives, the deadline to sign up is drawing near.

The Peoria Police Department is inviting people to sign up for the summer Citizen Police Academy. The program meets every Wednesday night in June and July. It's a chance for citizens to meet face to face with police officers and get insight into the inner workings of the department

"What we're featuring this year is we're going to do a bus tour of the resident officer's neighborhoods so we have a new resident officer on the Center Bluff, officer Ryan Winkle and we have an officer Cary Hightower on the East Bluff," said Steve Fairbanks, Neighborhood Development Specialist.

Persons attending must be at least 18 years of age or older. A background check will be conducted for every applicant prior to acceptance to the academy. The Peoria Police Department reserves the right to deny entry to the academy based on findings of the background check. If you are interested in applying please check your calendars to be sure you are able to commit time to the classes.

Applications will be accepted until 20 people have registered or up to May 30th, whichever comes first.
