PEORIA - One lucky middle school students is getting her wish granted. As part of the 2013 “Snag and Brag Fishing Series” sponsors held a “Catch-A-Wish Essay” Contest. More than 100 students wrote an essay answering the question, “If I could make a wish and change tomorrow, what would I wish and how would I make that wish occur?” 6th grader Alexis Simpson wrote about giving food to people who don’t have any.

"I've always wanted to help my community in a very special way and now, I'll make it happen. When we start our canned food drive next year to help feed the local community, I'll make sure it runs smooth and steady. I want to help feed the ones that don't have food."

Alexis won the top prize and will be the honorary chairman for her school’s canned food drive next year. 5th grader Kevin Uriostegui took home 2nd place.
