BLOOMINGTON - Illinois' governor says the state's job market is on the comeback trail.

Governor Pat Quinn stopped by a local laborers' hall in Bloomington Thursday to meet with local workers. Quinn says the state's unemployment figures are at their lowest point in nearly six years.

In July, the numbers were at 6.8 percent, down from 7.1 percent the month before. Quinn says the key has been developing sustainable jobs in fields like construction.

"Manufacturing and building things for a world market. Made in America is our favorite words in the English language. It's important that we come together and continue our momentum,” said Quinn.

One year ago, the unemployment rate was more than 9 percent. Quinn said investing in universities and rails will be key in further cutting into the unemployment numbers.
