Riders Hang On at Bull Riders Invitational

“Just the rush of getting on."
PEORIA - Carver Arena became a cowboy’s paradise Saturday.

More than 40 bulls tried to buck their riders at the Professional Bull Riders Peoria Invitational. Each participant only has to hang of for eight seconds. Riders are collecting points to advance to the professional bull rider’s tour finals.

There were even a few local cowboys trying to get in on the action. These athletes are grabbing life by the horns, even if those horns happen to be attached to a 2000-pound bull.

“Just the rush of getting on. Especially when you make that good ride. The crowd is going wild. Especially since this is my hometown crowd,” said Wade Phelps, a rider from Roanoke.

Organizers say safety for the fans, rider, and even the bulls is their top priority. The winner of Saturday’s invitational took home more than $4,000.
