NORMAL -Gubernatorial candidate Dan Rutherford was in Normal Thursday holding a fundraiser for his campaign.
He focused on pension reform and the legislative pay freeze.
Rutherford does not believe Governor Quinn’s move to suspend lawmaker’s pay will help solve the $100 billion dollar pension crisis.
While he remains optimistic that a resolution can be reached before the election, he fears the wage freeze has created a major rift between the governor and legislatures.

Rutherford says, "I think it just added even greater divisiveness in the relationship between the governor and the general assembly. I think the second thing it did that was very harmful was if it stands, I think it is a very bad precedence for the future."

Other candidates for governor, including democrat Bill Daley, have spoken out against Governor Quinn’s decision to freeze lawmaker’s
pay.
A lawsuit over the constitutionality of that move is set to be heard next month.
