School Board Candidate Drops Out of Race

She says it's because of personal reasons.
PEORIA - The only candidate running against the incumbent for the third district District 150 school board seat is no longer in the running.

Sue Wolstenholm dropped out of the race for what she says are personal reasons. Thomas Bride, executive director of the City of Peoria Election Commission, said Wolstenholm hasn't officially filed with their office yet.

That means her name will still be on the ballot. Bride said it's too late for the election commission to change it or for someone to run as a write in candidate.  He said he's not sure what would happen if she were to win the election.

Change150 is a newly formed organization working to oust District 150 superintendent, Grenita Lathan. The group planned to back Wolstenholm as a start in hopes of replacing most of the school board members. Change150 said in the following statement: “Members of CHANGE150 and our supporters would like to respond to the withdrawal announcement of School Board candidate and community favorite, Suzie Wolstenholm, by offering her our sincerest best wishes and continued support as she tends to her personal matters.

Moving forward, CHANGE150 will continue to investigate all our options and will strive to find a solution that allows the united voices of parents, teachers, homeowners, business leaders and taxpayers from every corner of Peoria to be heard.

CHANGE150 first and foremost, is a firm supporter of the dedicated teachers and staff of District 150 who work tirelessly every day to provide our children with an exemplary education. We are also a group of concerned parents, civic and religious organizations and political leaders who believe our children deserve the best education possible, but that the district is currently being led in the wrong direction. The goal of CHANGE150 is to help the movement grow by uniting Peoria’s communities because with a collective voice, we can be loud advocates for our children and for change.”
