PEORIA - US Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois says more resources for area VA clinics are on the way.
He just had a face to face meeting with the acting secretary of Veterans Affairs, Wednesday.
WMBD talked to the Democratic Senator, Thursday.
He says we still don't know why Peoria’s Bob Michel VA Clinic was flagged in the audit.
The less serious audit findings are coming out slowly.
Durbin says a bill in the house now will make more resources available to help the VA's respond to the massive audit.
Durbin says either way, more resources will be coming to help take care of veterans locally and across the country.
“We need to put medical professionals in. I can't say every single clinic, hospital will see an increase in professionals, but I think, overall. The VA system, there's a need for a dramatic investment,” says Durbin.
Meantime, after a scathing audit of waiting lists and false paperwork, the FBI has opened a criminal investigation into the Department of Veterans Affairs.
