PEORIA - The Illinois Lieutenant Governor is voting "yes" for independent maps.
Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon was in Peoria today to support a redistricting reform campaign.
The campaign aims at amending the state's constitution and creating new legislative districts.
Campaign leaders have proposed a new map, which they say is independent, nonpartisan, and transparent.
“I think it's important to know as much as possible that if you're in a community that your next door neighbor has the same state representative, the same state senator, and that you can, as a community, deal with state government,” Simon said.
Campaign leaders hope to have the amendment on the ballot this November.
