South Side Mission Bakes Pumpkin Pies

South Side Mission is baking 400 pies to serve to those in need this Thanksgiving.

PEORIA - The ovens are hot at South Side Mission this week. The charity is baking 400 pies in preparation for Thanksgiving Meal delivery Thursday. Six ovens are constantly baking the traditional desert. The pies will be cut into 3,200 slices. The Mission hopes to get half way through the pies Monday and continue to bake Tuesday.

Associate Executive Director of Development & Marketing Meg Newell says, “We have an industrial mixer that you would think would mix concrete, it's enormous. And then we pass that off to the pie team who adds it to the pie shells and gets it in the oven. Then we have the oven team who makes sure nothing burns. I'll tell you what, you start smelling pumpkin pie on Monday, and you’re ready by Thursday!”

Thanksgiving meal delivery requests will be accepted until noon on Tuesday, November 26th. Call 676-4606 for more information.
