Spike in Pekin Meth Arrests

PEKIN – Meth arrests are on the rise in Pekin, and it’s not the first time that area has battled that drug.

In 2002, a meth task force called “Operation Rattlesnake” began.

By 2005, the group had dropped the number of meth arrests down from 69 to 1.

However, numbers have grown once again.
So far in 2014, there have already been 43 meth manufacturing and meth conspiracy arrests in Pekin.

Pekin Police Department said one reason for increased numbers is that new laws have made it more difficult to buy meth-making ingredients. Now, it takes more people to get a hold of the ingredients needed to make meth.

"We're seeing a lot more people involved in that process, because it takes so many more people to go and get that pseudoephedrine and to get it back to the cook so they can make the product," said Detective Mike Eeten.

He said there are more meth conspiracy arrests than there used to be. He also said that meth arrests are up from last year around this time.
