STDs Still High in Peoria Health Department Findings

PEORIA - The Peoria City/County Health Department found STD rates among the same problems plaguing the county.

It does a comprehensive overview every year about problems specific to Peoria County. The department said it reduced the risk of water borne diseases, and improved transparency in its food safety inspection.

But there's one area that remains a problem; sexually transmitted diseases.  Although the number of STDs reported went down, the department says the change isn't significant enough.

"Our trends still consider Peoria County as having one of the highest STD incident rates of any county in Illinois and where unfortunately well above state and national levels,” said director, Greg Chance.
One aspect of that area that has improved is counseling and testing for HIV.
