San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The United States women's national team rolled to a 4-0 friendly win over Australia on Sunday as head coach Tom Sermanni faced his former side for the first time.
Sermanni spent 11 years in charge of Australia before taking over as U.S. coach, and his new side needed just six minutes to take the lead as Lauren Holiday's deflected volley found its way into the net.
Carli Lloyd made it 2-0 midway through the first half when she collected a pass from Alex Morgan and lashed the ball into the corner of the net from 20 yards.
Lloyd had a hand in the third goal for the U.S. when she picked out Abby Wambach at the back post and the veteran forward beat the goalkeeper to the ball and poked it home.
The scoring was capped in stoppage time for the Americans by Christen Press, and the team will return to action next Sunday against New Zealand.
