Washington Driver Killed in I 74-474 Accident

A Washington driver was killed Wednesday afternoon in an accident on I 74 near the 474 overpass in Peoria County. Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll and state police say 81 year old Jesse James Hilton pulled onto the highway from the shoulder of the road and into the path of a minivan, pushing Hilton's car into the I 474 westbound ramp. Hilton was pronounced dead at the scene while a passenger was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The minivan driver, 39 year old Kristan Tate of Brimfield was also taken to the hospital with two juvenile passengers with non life threatening injuries. According to OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Tate was treated and released. The westbound I 474 ramp and one lane of I 74 at the merge were shut down for several hours while the accident was investigated.
