From Washington, Illinois to the "other Washington", Mayor Gary Manier was in the balcony during the president's speech.
He's a guest of Illinois Republican Senator Mark Kirk.
We talked to Manier today, he says he toured the White House and the Capitol.
But he says he's really there to bring light to the federal assistance his community and several other municipalities were denied through FEMA.
"I hope Senator Kirk doing this, it draws attention to what needs to be done and the right thing to go forward and with Governor Quinn," says Manier. "The appeal process will be successful. I wanna make sure this isn't just a feel good trip for the mayor, I hope it's a successful trip for the state of Illinois."
Senator Kirk has introduced bipartisan legislation with Illinois Senator Dick Durbin to change the way disaster assistance is determined for smaller communities.
Manier will attend Illinois' State of the State tomorrow.
He's working with Governor Pat Quinn to appeal FEMA's denial.
