WMBD/WYZZ-TV - CHILLICOTHE, Ill. - Washington and Notre Dame will meet for a sectional crown Thursday night.
It's been a long time since either school captured a sectional trophy.
"It's extremely exciting," said Washington senior forward Maddie Lee. "It's a great way to end my senior year. I couldn't ask for anything better."
Notre Dame hasn't won a sectional since 1994, Washington hasn't won one since 1977.
"It's nice to hopefully make history with our school," said ND senior guard Maggie Maloof. "I'm just really proud to be with my teammates. I wouldn't want to be with any other team."
The Panthers edged the Irish by two points in overtime in a Jan. 16 regular season meeting.
"I'm so proud of the team. I'm honored to be a part of it," said Notre Dame senior forward Matti Bielfeldt. "It's awesome to get this far, any team. It's great."
Notre Dame advanced by beating Mendota in the sectional semifinal Monday. Washington beat Geneseo to advance to the sectional championship.
"It's kinda surreal, I don't think it has really clicked or any of is, we're still feeling like a regular season mode. But every game is the important game at this point," said Washington coach Maggie Mose. "It's win or go home. so we've got to bring it on Thursday.">>
