Winter Takes Toll on Public Works Budget

The numbers, broken down.
PEORIA - So far winter, Peoria Public Works has spent more than $1.9-million.

That's for salt, I-DOT equipment usage, plow contractor rates and wages. Overtime costs have tripled from last years winter. This season the department has spent $319,310, which is up from  last year's $150,132. That translates to a 261 percent increase over the prior two seasons in actual overtime labor cost.

Peoria has already seen  almost 50 inches of snow this winter. The city only averages around 24 inches a year,
