Wish Granted for one LEGO Fan

PEORIA - Eighteen year old Johnny Vargas loves LEGO's.

"It's kind of has to do with construction," he said. "I kind of want a job in construction and architecture."

Lately, though, he hasn't had the free time for them.

"I started getting tired," he said. "I didn't think much about it."

Last August, Vargas was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer of the soft and connective tissues.

"It's kind of tough at first, but you kind of start to get used to it."

"It was really tough," said his Mother, Veronica Vargas. "It's really tough, because his dreams were already there. He always dreams big."

Saturday, he got to keep dreaming big, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"I was able to go and look for Star Wars LEGO's, and we went in to the back and have cake," said Johnny.

It might not seem like much to many kids. But this was a big deal for Vargas.

"I'm able to waste money on myself, for once," he said. "I never really do that. My money always is spent on my sisters, when I have money."

Veronica added, "He sees that, if I don't have the money, he'll be like, 'Well, first, my sister's. First, you, and I'll be last.' He's always been like that. That's why, for him, he was like, 'This is it!'."

A cart full of LEGO's to help take his mind off things. But don't expect them to last long. He thinks these LEGO's creations will be done in all of a day.

Vargas continues treatment with chemotherapy and radiation on Monday.
